Do-In

Do-In, auto-shiatsu

When we wake up, we often feel the need to stretch our arms as we yawn. It feels wonderful, as if this were how we cross over from sleep to wakefulness.

Do-In is not so very different from the stretches and yawns we do naturally and that help us relax.

It is indeed about stretching, but consciously, knowing exactly what we are doing.

First, we need to learn to breathe from the belly and into the whole body, from the fingertips, through the head and right down to the soles of the feet.

Then we take up the postures that correspond to the stretches of the different meridians, and by practising this breathing we act directly on the flow of energy along the meridian concerned.

Do-In has a very powerful effect when it is done correctly. It can be practised in the morning when you wake up, or at any time of the day.

DO means opening the pathways to encourage the flow of vital ki.

IN means moving and extending the joints to that end.

Do-In also includes self-shiatsu techniques to awaken the energy, using pressure on certain points, percussion and active movements.

A complete Do-In session begins with a moment of meditation, followed by self-shiatsu techniques and, finally, meridian stretching exercises.

We don’t all have the same imbalances or the same needs, so each of us should practise the exercises that suit our own needs.

In the Do-In video sessions, we work out together, through a diagnosis based on conversation and observation, which exercises are right for each case.

Do-In helps us to relax, to develop our body’s flexibility and ability to let go, as well as a better awareness of ourselves.

It helps us get to know ourselves better. Very quickly, students understand which exercises suit them and can practise them during the day whenever they feel the need. Some exercises are in fact designed to be done standing up, so there is no need to be at home or in a special place: we can practise them anywhere. Once you know the exercises well, you know which one will ease your back at one moment, or give you a boost of energy at another.

The exercises work immediately: when they are done with the right breathing, we feel their benefits on how we are feeling straight away.
