Throughout all these years of practising shiatsu and caring for others, what has surprised me most is how little most people know about themselves.
I’m sorry to have to say this, but I know that many doctors and therapists have this tendency to « keep their knowledge to themselves ». The patient is seen as an object to be treated, with no real exchange. The doctor alone is supposed to treat the patient, who remains passive and knows less than the doctor about their own body. And it’s true: for a long time now, we have given doctors full power over ourselves. They are the ones who know.
For me, the person who comes to see me for a session is a whole human being. Their body belongs to them, and I know that, like me, they carry within them a wisdom and a strength that allow them to heal and to self-regulate.
Of course, doctors know more about the anatomy of the human body and about all the pathologies known to date. That is certainly true, and it’s not for nothing that they studied for more than ten years! Even so, the person who will always know you best is you. We forget that our organs are there, right there, in our belly, and that they communicate with us all the time; that our emotions are there too, in our belly; that the brain turns them into images, but that everything is there, in our inner workshop. Who better than ourselves could have access to it?
There is something, one aspect that conventional doctors will never know: our emotions, our feelings, our relationship with the outside world, our thoughts… as if human beings could be reduced to a lifeless body…
Life! That is exactly what conventional medicine is missing: life, not only the life that makes the body work, but the life that holds within it the mysteries of the complexity of a whole human being, a human being who is both similar to and completely different from all other human beings.
This is why we feel cheated and unrecognised when a doctor treats us without really taking an interest in who we are, but only in our physical symptoms.
I am not calling into question medicine and its discoveries, which are necessary and make healing possible. I simply think it is time to see the human being as a whole again and to give them back their power to heal. Western medicine should join forces with Chinese energetics: the two should come together, so that we change our vision of the human being with all the knowledge we have already gained.
If only money didn’t rule the world! Because yes, why not give people back the power to heal themselves? How many tonnes of medication would then become useless?
Recovering your power to heal and getting to know yourself is not as complicated as you might imagine, and the bridge, the connection, is made through energy.
Energy is not a concept. It is here: we use it at every moment to breathe, see, move and feel. We can sense it, it is within our reach. It is so present, so much here, that we don’t see it.
It is what is most obvious that becomes most distant. The only barrier, the only thing that keeps us away from it is simply… our mind.
But everything goes through the body. The body is the key: each and every one of us can learn, through our body, how to access our own energy, our own power…
